Psssh, like I can afford a butler to shift my gears these days! Do you have any idea how expensive healthcare benefits have gotten for employers? And I sure as hell can’t hire an illegal to do it, what with Trump stirring the pot so much lately.

Nice specimen, but
way
too expensive. Four grand, maybe.

Wow that is one clean car. I don’t really get the idea of a manual in a luxo-barge like that being a huge selling point, and apparently, 95% of people bought them with automatics anyway.

I shall do what I almost never do ... I give it a near nice price. The mileage is quite low for a car of that vintage, and I have a soft spot for this design - I test drove one as well (a manual). I have always thought that this 7 series was the best looking one they did. And the 635 CSi the best looking coupe they ever did, although the 4 series gives it a run for its money. I’d offer $6,500 and tap out around 7 grand.

Nice price because of the mileage. It’s 32 years old! That is less than 4,000 miles a year, very impressive.

I think the difference here is it’s in New Hampshire... so there are 2004 cars in worse shape with more mileage and rust. I think that gives it a bit of a bump. In California? Probably 4k. NH? I think closer to 6-7? But who knows, I’m not buying it.

Good point. But still CP by a good 25%.

I do wonder, was that the last iteration of 7 to come with a manual option in the US? You’re right that most buyers of those didn’t want it. But I’d also say that NOW, the average buyer of an ancient 7 series might actually prefer the simplicity of the manual.

I believe it was the last 7 series that let you stir your own gears. My brother-in-law had a Gen 2, and those are all slushboxes. That car is still running BTW, with well over 300K on it.

And I should have said - for a giant German sedan, that thing was fast, at least when new. The clutch was a little heavy, but the shifter, as they say, fell readily to hand.

I don't know about the US, but in Canada you could have a manual E32, 735i or 750i. I've seen one 735i but had no parking, and have heard of a local manual 750i

Excuse me, I don’t see anyone running for any money.
Although I would put the 635 second to this beauty.

The Bavaria was also pretty good looking. I suppose (non-Bangle) BMWs have gotten blander with time. Although, as I said, the 4 series coupe is a real looker. Used to think the S5 was best looking in the segment, but BMW takes the cake.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the 4 series is a good looking car. I just don’t find it special in any way, just a good looking coupe for its time like any other 3 series iteration through the years. The looks don’t make me lust for one like the old big BMW coupes do.

Agreed - the classic BMWs look the best to us, the enthusiasts. I wish they’d just do a throwback 2002, like they did with the Mini. Drove my cousins’ - so basic, yet so much fun.

E32 735i could be had with a manual.

2 Series is probably the closest we’re coming to that. I’ve never driven a 2002 but it’s on my list.

Cousin’s car was red, black interior, crank windows, steelies. Radio was there - optional, of course. As I have said in this space - probably the purest driving experience I have ever had. Twisty roads out in a Baltimore suburb, I almost launched it off a hill. You were going slow, no doubt, but you were going fast. Oh, to have that car today.
